On why she became a caregiver:
I became a caregiver because I have a passion for providing care for people. I believe that all people, especially seniors, should be treated with dignity, respect and love. I believe that in order to get you must give. At some point in my life I will need the same care. I am providing care today so others can live out the balance of their lives knowing they are valued human beings. I believe that if you have passion and love in your heart, you’ll love your job and will feel loved in return for the work you do. Helping people is “100% in my heart”.
On what she finds most rewarding about your career as a caregiver:
No one wants to be dependent on another person, however, as we age we need to rely on others. Being a caregiver allows me to assist residents in a way that they still feel independent, allowing them to feel good about themselves. I get great satisfaction from seeing the happiness in the eyes of our each of the people we serve. Seeing the results of what I do allows me to feel great satisfaction at the end of the day that I made a difference in a person life. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
On why he became a caregiver:
It has always been a passion of mine to help those in need. I knew from the start that being a caregiver would be something I would to do for a very long time. I have served many people as a care provider and through this have developed meaningful relationships with them and also their family members. Having the good fortune to care for people has been extremely rewarding and has given me purpose in life.
On what he finds most rewarding about your career as a caregiver:
I thought I would be the one helping people deal with the challenges of getting older. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started. What I soon learned is that the job provided me much more then I expected. My job has changed my life giving me the satisfaction that gets me up each day to do more. This job has changed my life and I thank God for giving me this blessed opportunity.
On why she became a caregiver:
I have always enjoyed taking care of people. Caregiving seemed to be a natural fit as it met all of my needs. The caregiver roll inspired me to expand my horizons and to get my registered nurses’ certification. While I work as a certified caregiver I am taking classes to become an RN with the hopes of continuing my work supporting our aging population.
On what she finds most rewarding about your career as a caregiver:
One of the biggest thrills I get from a role as a caregiver is making residents smile. That onto itself makes the resident feel good and also provides great satisfaction for me. The fact that my daily responsibilities is in part making resident feel better and loved, is a blessing for me. I have worked in several jobs prior to being a caregiver and never felt the satisfaction that I have in this job.
On why she became a caregiver:
I had no idea what caregiving entailed until one day I became a caregiver for a family member. It was at that time I realized how important it was to provide support to someone unable to take care of themselves, especially as they became sicker and needed additional care as they transitioned the end of life. After going through this process I found myself wanting to serve more people going through this process. I suppose it’s a life calling.
On what she finds most rewarding about your career as a caregiver:
What I find most rewarding is, it may sound cliche, but a smile from a resident and the feeling of comfort they feel with just a few words of compassion and care. Having the ability to bring joy to someone’s life is an overwhelming feeling that provides tremendous personal satisfaction, something most jobs are unable to provide.
On why she became a caregiver:
As a young girl I spent summers with grandparents and great aunts and uncles. I loved spending time with them hearing their stories. As I got older I no longer got to spend those summers with them. And then I got a job in the healthcare industry. I once again got to sit with people and hear their amazing stories of their life’s journey. I found my calling. With this calling comes great responsibility though. I take that responsibility seriously. This is their home and their life. But each day they allow me to be a part of it. I want them all to feel comfort and love.
On what she finds most rewarding about your career as a caregiver:
With each resident I learn greater patience, understanding and compassion. Every resident who’s life I have touched has enabled me to feel great satisfaction and made me a better person. Great Grandmother used to tell me “Eventually we each play all the parts” meaning… child, young adult, parent and grandparent, hopefully great grandparent and even better great great grandparent. To be able to learn from those who played all the parts means EVERYTHING to me.
On why she became a caregiver:
I started in the Dietary Department as a server and loved the residents so much I wanted to have a position that more directly worked with them daily and played a bigger role in their lives. I decided to become a Caregiver so I could provide the care to the residents that I was not able to provide to my own grandmother, who lived in New York City. My goal every day in my job is to make sure the residents do not feel alone and that they feel loved and supported.
On what she finds most rewarding about your career as a caregiver:
I love my job and find satisfaction in helping them every day, some days that is showers and some days it is medications, and some days it as simple as making them smile or holding their hand.
